Warlock! is a stripped down D20 version of Warhammer Fantasy Role Play. Tests are either opposed or you need a modified 20 to succeed. That's it. Great convention game because it's so easy for new players to pick up. Everyone can grasp you need to beat the other guy or get a 20.

Instead of getting 50th anniversary releases of 0D, 1E and adventures we get stamps... they could have done them as the originals with a cool gold foil d&d logo, even re-edit them to make them more user friendly. Would have been a cash cow but these jerks don't have any vision. A Greyhawk box set? A Mystara box set? Bah

I think that is a good analysis of the situation. Though I also sometimes wonder how much if the controversy based in part our of jealousy that they DIDN'T get the preview from WOTC.

This "comprehensive toolkit" is 80% d100 charts of adjectives and nouns. An absolute waste of shelf space and money. Questing Beast is a great hype man, and I'll always appreciate the spotlight he places on truly unique and creative game designers, but he's delusional to count himself among them.

I'm not sure what the question is getting at. Does great writing mean evocative lore and fluff? Does it mean good editing? Does it mean crisp and well defined definitions? Does it mean innovation?

If you'd asked me two days ago (you did, didn't get to this video then), I'd have said "ehh, I expect youtubers to talk about it, show it off, and discuss what they like whether they're being paid or not, because missing the hype train is a dumb plan." NOW that we know Hasbro is not content sending armed Pinkerton thugs to harass their customers and is threatening them virtually, I'm going from saying _I_ won't buy it to saying _YOU_ shouldn't buy it or give it any free press. For me this is the intolerable OGL outrage all over again. Screw Hasbro, they can shove 6E.

One thing I really admire about Traveller is that it has a GLUT of supplementary material going back to the 70s through magazines like The Journal of Travellers Aid Society, Challenge Magazine, and Space Gamer, and books published by GDW and SJG, a really rich background and established setting, and still they encourage players to take it and go their own way. My own sci-fi campaign is heavily influenced by Traveller and a dozen other properties and franchises. I still stop and read any article on Traveller that I can get my hands on.

Same here. I'm so happy that amazon did a great job of the series. I'm very much looking forward to the depiction of New Vegas and the Mohave. I'm interested in seeing how Modiphius follows the series. So far, a tie-in of minis for the main characters of the show have been released.

Thanks for this. It's a game I looked at, but decided against, for reasons. I love the setting, but would not want to replicate the video game precisely, the scavenger hunt aspect. Looking forward to hearing more of your impressions of the game and gameplay.

Yes, the Modiphius books always have high production values and artwork! Own most of the Star Trek books in PDF and two of the Conan books.

I have Knave 1e -- nice game! Not going to buy Knave 2e -- or maybe I will later (if I can ever pick up the PDF for $10 or elss). Problem I have with the second edition is that the PDF is $20 and I already own over 100 OSR games (yes over 100) -- most of which are available for free in PDF form (or the no-art version is available for free).

Just catching up on your excellent content. This is a fun read that I can nerd out over while I read. Best of all, there is no warning label. You just enjoy the history and peek into the creativity and thought process of one of the founders of my favorite hobby. I love the documents included that I can sift through and enjoy.

Oh cool, I'm also into the Fallout 2d20 game, but never played. I have the core book, starter box GM extras kit, and extra dice. I've been looking at the other books, but skipped the Winter of Atom as I think I've played so much Fallout 4 that the Boston area feels a bit played out, and I'd rather set my campaign in a "fresh" area. I beleive thier are two new scourcebooks for Wastelanders and Scavengers, that I'm interested in. I'd like to play in a game if your were ever to run one. I've been a fan of Fallout since 1997. Good pick GM Bloodworth! I was lucky enough to pick up quite a few hardcopy books when Modiphius was selling out their stock of Conan 2d20 items. The comic book-style in some of the art reminds me of my younger days, reading The Savage Sword of Conan comics.

EDIT: the perfect level would be your "Master of the Game by Gary Gygax Part 1 (Rerecording)" if you could achieve that again.

My first RPG was Traveller in 1979 - being kids we originally played it like Star Wars, the original Battlestar Galactica and Space 1999. However, it was when we saw Alien on UK TV in 1982 that the game really clicked - not so much because of the xenomorph itself, but the clunky tech, the way the crew of the Nostromo dysfunctionally worked together and the overarching influence of the Corporation on space. That was how we built our campaign, it ended up being quite like a mix of Alien, Firefly and The Expanse (the later two not being around when we played the game). I own quite a bit of Mongoose 2e, but have never really played it, so I will watch your videos on it with interest.

I get your category now: " Most often played over the time you've been playing TTRPGs?" I played a ton of AD&D 1e from 1979 to 1989. In 1977 I was introduced to TTRPGs through OD&D and then kind of moved over to AD&D in 1978 with the help of the Holmes Basic Rules (a temp hybrid version) and then full AD&D in 1979 when the DMG came out. Yes - it is easily my most played TTRPG as well. Fantastic game!! I'd use Castles & Crusades now to play with all my old AD&D source material -- but yeah -- so many good times and fond memories with AD&D 1e.

13:30 I remember that sudden transition from the Basic Set to the first three AD&D books. A friend suddenly showed us a copy of Monster Manual, after which everyone had to have one, and there was a very quick succession to Player's Handbook and DM Guide. It seemed to all happen within about half of a school year. Even though the books cost a fortune in lawn mowing money ($12 each, as I recall), there was no "easing in" to AD&D. The Basic Set became a relic almost instantly.

Great video. Isn't it nice when an RPG product starts off acknowledging the founders of the hobby rather than issuing a warning like it's a pack of cigarettes or asbestus? I'm a huge C&C fan. I enjoy using this system so much, and as soon as this book was available, I picked it up with the patch. This game saved our core RPG group. It's easy to run (for me), and my players have had more fun with this system than any of the previous systems.

Love the video. Love the channel. Wish youtube would show them to me more often. Just a reminder don't say the word a - l- g-o xxx in the answer or the tube ignores your response. We played Basic all through. We just added classes or whatever when there was something we liked from AD&D. I think we had a mix of Holmes and later B/X, and several dragons. We changed the weapons values on Basic and kept playing.
